About Kerry

Kerry is an avid BBQ fan. From certified judge, promoter and backyard smoker, she loves anything to do with barbecue! Her passion is promoting two BBQ festivals in the Dothan area each year. Tri-State BBQ Festival the 2nd weekend in April, and PorktoberQue - this year on October 5-6. In her "spare" time she runs The Main Event, an event planning and marketing company in Dothan, Alabama.

Thank you

To everyone who supported PorktoberQue, thank you very much. Thank you to our sponsors, spectators, vendors and all who attended. I wish the crowd had been bigger, and that it hadn’t rained on Sunday, but that’s how it goes sometimes. We advertised the stew out of the event, but the public didn’t respond as positively as we had hoped. Events have a season it seems, and competition barbecue in Dothan may have run it’s course.

I’m not sure where the rumor started that I “cheated” some teams out of money, but I didn’t knowingly short anyone any money. There was some confusion on Saturday with some KCBS (pro) teams getting the wrong checks but this was due to a scoring glitch and it was resolved prior to anyone leaving the fairgrounds. If you were a competition team and received the incorrect check, please let me know ASAP.

Due to the combination of low attendance and being accused of cheating folks out of money and the stress and headaches of those accusations, I’ve decided not to put PorktoberQue on again. At least not in the form we have had it (Oktoberfest and BBQ competition). We might consider just an Oktoberfest at the Farm Center next year, but it’s not a “for sure”… just a thought.

To the wonderful KCBS and FBA teams, reps, and judges who I have come to know and love over the past decade, thank you for your participation and friendship. I hope to see you again soon, and wish you the best!

-Kerry

High Tech Voting

The People’s Choice competition sponsored by Five Star Credit Union has gone high tech this year, thanks to BAMTEXT. Now, spectators to PorktoberQue will vote for their favorite team’s barbecue by texting the team’s assigned number to a local databank. Sampling barbecue is FREE this year and included in your $5 admission ticket, and takes place between 2-4 on September 30th.

The results are tallied and posted in real time and when the People’s Choice competition is over, everyone will know the winning team’s number at the same time.  Only one vote per cell phone is permitted. You can follow the voting results on Saturday, September 30 by clicking here : https://a1.bamtext.com/voting/porktoberque

Here’s what the voting will look like (team numbers assigned on Friday night).
