There’s also free beer samples form Omaha Brewing while they last.
On the outside stage, the music will start just at 11:00 with Michael and Julia followed by Low Emission Vehicle at noon. The Kids Que Awards will be on the main stage at 1:30 and then Kendall will perform some smooth jazz on his sax. Dave Dale and the Salt Water Cowboys will perform at 3:30pm and you will love their laid back style and fun tunes! Of course, all the music on Saturday, as well as BBQ samples, the polka stage, car show and vendors are all included in your $5 daily ticket.
PorktoberQue kicks off today at 5pm. The competition cook teams will be done setting up, and the Biergarten will be officially opened at 5. The Polka Dots will play from 6-10 with breaks in between sets. The Biergarten has 10 different German-style beers on draft, plus we will have canned beer too. Steins for sale to the first 125 people, and T-shirsts are inside as well.
Outside, there will be live music on the outside stage from 5:30-10pm.
Outside, Alice Nelson will begin entertaining at 5:30 and is followed by Otha Allen at 6pm. Then, local legegends, the KJAMS will play from 7-10.
There’s lots of great music to listen to! Bring a chair if you want a seat near the stage. Admission at the gate is $5 per person, children 12 and under are free!
We just received word that Myron Mixon and the Jack’s Old South team will be coming to PorktoberQue this weekend to compete. Stop by his cook team site and get a photo with “The Winningest Man In Barbecue” Saturday and Sunday!
The People’s Choice competition sponsored by Five Star Credit Union has gone high tech this year, thanks to BAMTEXT. Now, spectators to PorktoberQue will vote for their favorite team’s barbecue by texting the team’s assigned number to a local databank. Sampling barbecue is FREE this year and included in your $5 admission ticket, and takes place between 2-4 on September 30th.
The results are tallied and posted in real time and when the People’s Choice competition is over, everyone will know the winning team’s number at the same time. Only one vote per cell phone is permitted. You can follow the voting results on Saturday, September 30 by clicking here : https://a1.bamtext.com/voting/porktoberque
Here’s what the voting will look like (team numbers assigned on Friday night).
Friday night (September 29) the KJAMS are playing a concert at 7pm. You can bring a lawn chair or blanket, but no coolers are allowed in the gates either day. The KJams are Dothan’s premier party band and have entertained crowds across the southeast for decades. Tickets just $5 per person per day at the gate. Gates open at 5pm and there will be music at 5:30 by Alice Nelson and at 6:00 from Otha Allen before the KJAMS take the stage. Don’t miss their Dothan performance this year!
The Man Cave sponsored by Schmitz Automotive Group is a great place to sit down, get out of the sun, and enjoy your food and drinks. It’s also a spot where you have been able to watch the SEC football games on TVs we had in the tent. We hung those TVs from the poles and were able to have 3 units that were about 40″ (the heaviest we could suspend from the tent poles).
This year, through a partnership with Camping World of Dothan we have upgraded our TVs for the Man Cave! They are bringing three large RVs to park on 3 sides of the Man Cave tent. These RVs will have large flat screen TVs mounted to the side and should be covered somewhat with an awning so the glare won’t be bad. You’ll be able to sit inside the Man Cave and watch the TVs and catch the games while you’re at PorktoberQue having fun with your family.
As if that weren’t enough, Camping World will be giving away bags, goodies and swag all weekend if you stop by and visit their booth or take a tour of one of the RVs at PorktoberQue.
Many people have asked what will be happening Sunday at the Houston County Farm Center. Here are the highlights- the Florida Barbecue association will be having their barbecue competition from 10am through 2:30pm with awards on the main stage at approximately 3:30 pm. Meanwhile, at noon we will have an interfaith service on the main stage featuring Raymond Ramsey. Come enjoy his uplifting words of inspiration, accompanied by music from music minister Matt at noon.
Following that, we have worship and praise music, gospel and more until the awards ceremony. Plus, inside we have the Festhaus with polka music from 12:30-2:30 and beer sales from 1-4. Many beers will be half priced during this time! Plus, there will be shopping with vendors, great food and the man cave with TV’s showing NFL games from noon-4.
Friday and Saturday at PorktoberQue, we are bringing in brewers to give away free samples of their craft beers to our guests 21+.
Friday night we will have Props Brewing, a veteran owned and operated microbrewery from Fort Walton Beach, sampling two of their beers. They plan on bringing their fall Pumpkin Ale and also their German-style Hefeweisen to sample to guests for free, plus the Biergarten will have their Oktoberfest Beer on sale by the pint or stein. Whatever beer is left over from the Friday night sampling will also be sampled on Saturday as well. We plan on the Friday night sampling to be done near the stage at the event, and Saturday it will be inside the Festhaus by the Biergarten area most likely.
Saturday for most of the day we will also have Omaha Brewing Company from Omaha, Georgia on site to sample two of their favorite fall beers. They will be brining their Munich Helles lager, Gnat Knocker and their fall seasonal imperial brown ale, 762. The tasting notes on both of those beers are below. You can also buy these beers by the pint or stein at one of the two biergarten areas at the festival.
PorktoberQue is at the Houston County Farm Center September 29-October 1st. For times and more info check the web site or call 334-699-1475
