Grand Champion winners from PorktoberQue also receive their name on a “bung” as an entry into The Jack (Jack Daniel’s Invitational Barbecue Competition) and an automatic free entry into the American Royal Barbecue Invitational in 2018, an invite to the 2017 World Food Championships, an invite to the Sonny’s Smokin’ Showdown as well as points on the National Barbecue ranking system.

 

Backyard- Utilizes KCBS rules, only cooking chicken, ribs and pork butt

The chicken and ribs will be turned in to the certified barbecue judges on Saturday during the regular turn in times for all teams. The chicken and ribs will be scored by the CBJ’s and Trophies for the top 5 in each category will be given.  Additionally, each backyard team is required to cook at least one butt and distribute samples during the people’s choice competition. Spectators will vote for one favorite and that winner will receive a $200 prize, and bragging rights.
