PorktoberQue is Finally Here!

Tonight PorktoberQue kicks off at the Houston County Farm Center in Dothan, Alabama. The farm center is at 1701 E. Cottonwood Rd., and you can buy tickets at the door for just $3 (children 6 and under are free).  Or, you can get in free if you wear Lederhosen or a German outfit. Tonight’s festival is from 5pm- 10pm.

Tonight are the City Commissioners versus the County Commissioners hot wing eating contest (7pm), the corn hole practice rounds (all evening), Bavarian Obstacle course challenge, and of course, live music on two stages.

In the Festhaus (that’s the larger metal building that’s air-conditioned) is our Oktoberfest music and food, plus cold draft beer from Sam Adams Octoberfest. The Polka Dots of Dothan will play all night and there will be a dance floor. Don’t forget, if you buy a beer mug, you get refills for $2.25 each all weekend!

On the outside stage, there are two acts.  At 5:30 is Flip Robinson. He is a young man making his way in the world as a musician. His acoustic versions of songs have earned him a good following with young adults across the Wiregrass.

7:00 Kristan Mikala and the Paradox will play. They are a veritable powerhouse of a band based in Dothan, AL. Known for their engaging and creative interpretations of high-energy rock covers as well as fun, relatable originals, Kristan Mikala and the Paradox brings a party wherever they go. Formed and fronted by a dynamic, award-winning vocalist and songwriter, the band has been performing widely in the Southeast throughout 2014

Free Obstacle Course Challenge at PorktoberQue

This year at PorktoberQue, spectators will have the opportunity to be named the King of the Cave (and also the Queen of the Cave or the Kid of the Cave) thanks to Tuffy Automotive. Just outside the Tuffy Man Cave, there will be a Bavarian Obstacle Course Challenge to see who is the best in the Cave.

The Challenge will involve some running and simple Oktoberfest themed activities and is free to participate in. The times scored will be posted on the Man Cave white board, and nice trophies and prizes will be awarded at the end of the event.  To participate, go to the Tuffy Man Cave (under the large tents) at PorktoberQue and sign up to run the Challenge!

Below is the artists rendition of the beautiful acrylic “crowns” that will be the trophies for the winners. So, take some time while at PorktoberQue to take the Cave Challenge!

Can We Make a Cop Cry? (Or Set the Fire Department Ablaze?)

The Dothan, Alabama Buffalo Wild Wings will be hosting their famous Blazin’ Wing Challenge Friday, September 27th at 7:00 pm at PorktoberQue inside the Mighty Auto Parts Man Cave. The two teams competing will be the Dothan Fire Department versus the Dothan Police Department and two lucky people in attendance will be called upon to help the teams win the battle. Think you have what it takes to be the “ringer” for one of the teams? Or, just want to watch our macho men of service cry over a plate of wings? Show up Friday 9/27 at PorktoberQue at 7:00 PM in the Man Cave to enjoy the Blazin’ Wing Challenge sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings. There’s no extra cost once you’re in the gate to experience the Man Cave or the Wing Challenge or watch mouths ablaze.

We would like to offer the winning team in the wing challenge a prize basket full of coupons for free food and merchandise from area businesses. We are asking local merchants to contribute something that would be nice for a Police Man or Fire Man (or woman!) to win. In return, we will list you on the Blazin’ Wing Challenge web page (http://porktoberque.com/activities/blazin-wing-challenge/ ) as a supporter and give you 4 free tickets to PorktoberQue so you can cheer on your favorite team.  Even though it’s two months away, we’re starting to gather the prizes now so we aren’t scrambling at the last minute. If you have something you’d like to donate as a prize, please call us at (334) 699-1475 or email us at queenofque@gmail.com

PorktoberQue is a sanctioned KCBS barbecue competition and Oktoberfest at the Houston County Farm Center and runs from September 27-28, 2013. Admission is just $2 per person per day, with proceeds benefiting the Regional Land/Water Rescue squad and all the work they do helping locate lost and missing residents of the tri-state area. Information for vendors, teams or interested parties can be found at www.PorktoberQue.com
