2016 PorktoberQue T-Shirts

We’re thrilled with this year’s T-shirts! Designed by TGICreative, these shirts will be available while supplies last at PorktoberQue at the beer stations. S-XL shirts are $12 each and XXL and XXXL shirts are $14 each.  They look super sharp, and the colors just pop off the shirt! 3-Deep Screen printing in Midland City printed them for us and did a fantastic job. The front and back are shown, below.

JurassicPorkimg_2702If you want to get your shirt early and wear it to PorktoberQue, you can come by The Main Event M-F from 9-4 and we should be able to take care of you. Call us first, since some days we are out of the office getting ready for PorktoberQue! 334-699-1475

The Beer Mugs Are IN!

Every year, PorktoberQue has a differently designed mug or beer stein for sale in the Fest Haus by the Biergarten. This year, we went with an Oktoberfest-style dimpled half liter glass stein with a combination of the dated festival logo and the Sam Adams Oktoberfest logo on the front.  Steins will be $12 each including your first draft beer. Draft refills in your souvenir mug will be discounted  (only on draft in the FestHaus) and you can pick from any of the draft beers we have (not just the sponsor beer, Sam Adams Oktoberfest.) The beer  steins are very limited (only 200 will be sold) so make sure you get yours early, as we expect to sell out again quickly! Last year, we sold out of steins in just under 2 hours. A photo of the beer mug we will have this year is below. We filled it up with beer and tested it out to make sure it works! (it does!) Prost! (cheers)

Corn Hole Tournament Details Announced

Cornhole (also known as dummy boardsbean bag tossdadholedoghouseBaggo or Bags) is an American lawn game in which players take turns throwing bags of corn (or bean bags) at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point. Play continues until a team or player reaches the score of 21.

Sounds easy enough, right? Try your luck and form a two-person corn hole team to compete against others at PorktoberQue. Your $20 entry fee gets you 4 tickets in (a $20 value) and signs you up to compete. All of the $20 registration fee goest to support the NHS Girls Soccer program, which recently went to the state championship in 2016, the first group to go in 15 years of the school’s program.

Your tickets get your 2-person team in the gate Friday night to practice between 6-9 on the boards, and then gets you back in on Saturday to compete. The tournament begins at 2pm. (Your ticket can even get you back in on Sunday to see the finals of the Ultimate Air Dogs championships!) Winners get trophies, bragging rights and other goodies.

For questions on the Corn Hole tournament please call 334-794-3179

Limited Edition Beer Steins Return

The first year we did ceramic beer steins, in 2013,  we sold out of them in just over 90 minutes. So, last year we got a glass beer mug (instead of the stein) because we were able to get twice as many for the same money.  We thought this was a smart business move, and would allow more people to purchase a collectable beer mug from the event.

And, although the glass mugs had our logo and were a very nice heavy weight USA made beer mug, we didn’t get the same feel from it as we did from the German-style Ceramic mug. So, we contacted a beer stein producer in Miami, FL and they did up a ceramic beer stein for us with our logo and date on one side, and the official draft beer of PorktoberQue, Sam Adams Oktoberfest, on the other side. (They sponsor the beer mugs for us, and we are very thankful of that!)

The mugs have arrived in hand, and they look and feel great! They are going to be perfect for PorktoberQue this year, and just wanted to let you know that they may sell out again on Friday night, so don’t delay in getting yours! We have just 125 souvenir steins available for sale beginning at 5pm in the Fest Haus (the air-conditioned building where the polka music is).

At this time, we anticipate selling the 18 oz steins for $12 each and it will include your first draft beer at that price. (We will wash all 125 mugs prior to September 25th so they will be ready to put ice cold beer in!) Then, each additional refill will be (most likely, based on last year’s prices) $2.50 in the souvenir mug. A 16 oz beer will cost $3.75 in a plastic cup if you don’t get the stein. You may also bring back previous year’s steins/mugs this year and receive the discounted refill price all weekend. Don’t forget to tip your bartenders… they are working for tips and even a quarter per beer adds up for them!

What to Expect at PorktoberQue

Besides laughter, good memories and family fun, what should you expect and plan for at PorktoberQue? Here’s a TOP 10 list of things to remember to make your visit enjoyable:

  1.  No coolers are allowed in the gates. Sorry. We have plenty of food, beer, water and other items for sale, though!
  2. Bring a camera! For the Reptile Discovery Program, for the Car Show, for the “stick your head through a hole and be the PorktoberQue pig” cut out…. there’s lots of photo ops!
  3. Bring sunscreen for the kids (and yourself!) on Saturday. Lots of outside activities including the free inflatables, free putt putt, free car show, and loads of shopping— about 80% of the festival is in the sun. If you get hot, we have air-conditioning in the Biergarten.
  4. Yes, there’s beer for sale, but it’s still family friendly. It’s not a drunk fest, but rather a fun event for people of all ages and no one who is intoxicated will be served.
  5. Even if you’re 75 years old, you need a valid ID to purchase beer. It’s Alabama state law and we follow those laws and rules. Everyone purchasing a beer needs to get their ID verified and get an armband.
  6. Bring some money to purchase BBQ and great food both days! There’s also a People’s Choice tasting tent that’s an additional $10 on Saturday. Proceeds benefit NHS cross country program.
  7. There are a few activities for kids that cost extra, like the NASCAR simulator, the pony rides, the mini-helicopter rides and things of that nature. The cornhole tournament is also extra, $20, and you need to register in advance to get your team a spot.
  8. There’s no extra cost to go into the Man Cave and watch the football games or enjoy the fun!
  9. Admission is just $2 per person per day, kids 6 and under are free both days. Wear Lederhosen and get in free!
  10. There is shopping with a wide variety of vendors both INSIDE the air-conditioned building and also outside. Make sure you check both out!

PorktoberQue is September 27th from 5-9pm and also September 28th from 10-9. List of bands playing on two stages both days is above under the Entertainment tab. See you there!
