KCBS Comp to offer low entry fee and $5,000 in prize money

The Wiregrass’ first KCBS barbecue competition will take place October 5-6, 2012 at Center Stage Alabama (9 miles south of the Ross Clark Circle in Dothan.) The fun contest will offer $5,000 in cash prizes and will offer very low entry fees for participants.

The competition will be set in an Oktoberfest-themed setting, offering spectators beer, music and many fun activities as well as the opportunity to sample competition quality barbecue. The event is being called “PorktoberQue”, because of the combination of pork, October fest and Barbecue.

Prize money for the competitors will be as follows:

Prize money for 2012 PorktoberQue- $5,000.00

Grand Champion  $1,150

Reserve Champion  $750

Payouts through 5th place in each meat (Chicken, Pork Ribs, Pork, Beef Brisket)

First Place- $225

Second Place $175

Third Place- $150

Fourth Place $100

Fifth Place $75

PorktoberQue will use KCBS rules, scoring, and cook the traditional four meats with 30 minute turn ins.

The event is also requiring that all teams cook at least one butt for the People’s Choice tasting tent. These will be turned in to a centralized location for spectators to come sample and vote for their favorites. PorktoberQue will be a free event open to the public, and the People’s Choice sampling will be one way for the event to generate revenue.  It will be up to each team to provide their own meat for the People’s Choice as well as the competition. We will award $150 prize money for People’s Choice.

There is no separation of backyard and professional. Everyone will compete at the same level in PorktoberQue. Every team is eligible for any and all prize money. Rules for KCBS cooks are available on their web site, at http://www.kcbs.us/pdf/2012_Rules.pdf

Entry forms for teams are available at www.PorktoberQue.com or by calling (334) 699-1475 to have one mailed to you.
