The 2016 Kids Que sponsored by Academy Sports+Outdoors still has room for a few more competitions, however the deadline is fast approaching. The original deadline of September 10 was extended a week to September 17. Your child’s entry must be postmarked by September 17 or HAND DELIVERED on Monday, September 19 to 257 South Saint Andrews St. in Downtown Dothan. This is so we can get your child the necessary information and tickets they will need to compete on Saturday September 24 at PorktoberQue. If you have any questions or even want to pay with a credit card and register them over the phone call 334-699-1475
PorktoberQue is pleased to be able to give back and give thanks for all that we have been blessed with by holding a prayer and praise service on Sunday morning of PorktoberQue. The event will be about an hour long, beginning at 11:00. There will be free admission for ALL coming out to PorktoberQue before the service starts at 11! So bring your church, youth group and friends and bring a chair September 25th to PorktoberQue. There will be 4 preachers/ ministers from area churches each speaking for 7-9 minutes. We hope their uplifting message will uplift and soothe your soul. There will be music before the service by the New Freedom Church band (approximately 10:15- 11:00), and during the service Glory Revealed will play contemporary Christian songs.
After the service, we have several local choirs, gospel groups, and Christian musicians performing throughout the day. We will also have the finals of the Dock Diving dogs competition, the Polka bar and Reptile discovery programs will be on the inside stage from 11:30-5pm. The Man Cave will have NFL football on the TV’s, and most of the food vendors will be on hand to serve up your favorite foods. Come for the prayer and fellowship, and stay for the festival!
One of the favorite attractions at PorktoberQue is the Reptile Discovery Program by Bruce Shwedick, and the real stars of the show are the slithery and sometimes slimy reptiles themselves. This year, we are especially pleased that Wyndham Vacation Resorts has chosen to be the reptile show sponsor, so that families can be educated and entertained in between polka bands in the FestHaus again. PLUS, Bruce and the reptiles will be here all three days of PorktoberQue, so you have more than one chance to see the program and pose with the “stars” for photos afterward. PLEASE make sure you stop by the Wyndham booth and thank them for their sponsorship and maybe even learn about their beautiful properties in Panama City Beach and Destin. PorktoberQue is September 23-25, 2016 at the Houston County Farm Center in Dothan, Alabama. It is a family-friendly Oktoberfest (there is cold beer in the FestHaus) and it is also a barbecue cook off with a car show, Ultimate Air Dogs competition, polka music, outside stage with entertainment and a whole lot more. Call 334-699-1475 for information or a vendor space.

Seriously, isn’t the name of this contest reason enough to enter? Wurst cook is a bratwurst cooking competition at PorktoberQue.
You don’t have to be a professional competition barbecue team to take part in some of the cooking competitions at PorktoberQue. We have two Friday night cooking competitions that welcome anyone of any age or skill level to participate. One is a baked bean competition (beancontest.com) and this competition, Wurst Cook. A wurst is a type of German sausage. The most commonly known wurst are bratwurst and knockwurst in the United States.
Each contestant will receive the wurst to be included in the entry. They may prepare it any way they like, and can add or combine any ingredients or garnishes with the wurst.
Each contestant must be present at the team meeting at 4:30 at the Farm Center to receive their wurst (type to be determined the day of the contest). Contestants will also receive a specially marked box to turn in their creation in at precisely 7:30 to the same building.
Winners will be presented cash and prizes on Saturday at 5:30 on the main stage.
Plus there’s the great prizes you can win, if you recipe/dish/creation is chosen as one of the top 5. But really, it’s about the fun of competition and the great value you get when you enter.
When you pre-register you will receive 4 admission tickets to PorktoberQue. (this is a $16 value alone!) You will get to attend the team meeting, receive the bratwurst or other wurst used in the competition, and will be given a spot to set up your grill or dutch oven to compete on Friday night. You turn in your entry at 7:30 (precisely) and awards are given on Saturday. You can use 2 tickets on Friday night and 2 on Saturday if you like! Winner need not be present at awards- they can pick up any prizes the Monday after the event at the office located at 257 South Saint Andrews Street in Dothan, AL.
Wurst Cook will be judged by certified KCBS judges, table captains and master judges. These folks know what they’re doing, and will fairly score all the entries.
KMX is probably the most fun contemporary music station in the Wiregrass, and they are bringing some of their crazy fun to Dothan for PorktoberQue!

PorktoberQue is pleased to have one of the best bluegrass bands in the area headlining the Saturday of the festival this year. Pure and Simple Bluegrass will perform just before the barbecue awards from 3:30-5:30 (the awards are at 5:30) and will energize and entertain the crowds.
Pure & Simple Bluegrass Has been entertaining the masses for 15 years. They do music from many genres of music from Bluegrass to 70’s classic rock, with a sprinkle of comedy and magic thrown in. the members are, Steve Kirkland- Bass, Vocals, Travis Perry- Guitar, Dobro,Vocals, Mike Hutto- Guitar, vocals, Ronnie Rutherford- Mandolin, comedy, and Greg Wigham-Banjo.
Pure and Simple Bluegrass will be performing thanks to the generosity of our sponsor, Chord Buddy. The Chord Buddy is a teaching system for learning how to play the guitar, and it was a successful product that was snapped up by a “shark” on the show, Shark Tank. The Chord Buddy is successful, because as soon as the ChordBuddy is properly attached to your acoustic or electric guitar, you will be able to make music. Within a few weeks, you’ll begin removing some of the tabs and making the chords on your own. In two months, you’ll be able to play the guitar with no ChordBuddy at all! This makes it the fastest and easiest way to learn to play guitar, and there should be some Chord Buddies at PorktoberQue if you are interested in trying one out.
What’s a dirndl, you might ask? Wikipedia says, “A dirndl [?d??ndl?] is a type of traditional dress worn in southern Germany – especially Bavaria –, Austria and South Tyrol, based on the historical costume of Alpine peasants. ” It is the traditional dress of Oktoberfests across the world, and a dirndl consists of a bodice, blouse, full skirt and apron. While appearing to be simple and plain, a properly made modern dirndl may be quite expensive as it is tailored and sometimes cut from costly hand-printed or silk fabrics.
However several online retailers offer affordable dirndls you may won’t to look at so you come to PorktoberQue in a great outfit. (And don’t forget- you get in free when wearing a dirndl or lederhosen!) We are not affiliated with any one shop or store, so look around for sales and good deals. Here are a few that we found
Not that we’re taking any Biblical license here with this, but it’s 40 days and 40 nights until PorktoberQue. Unlike Noah, we’re actually starting to pray for NO RAIN during PorktoberQue, September 25-26, 2015. There’s still time to enter some of the cooking contests, and we have room for a few more vendors. so check out the site or call us at 334-699-1475 for info.
This just in… the back of your admission ticket to PorktoberQue this year is worth a whole lot more, thanks to the generosity of our sponsor, Jake’s Bar and Grill. All ticket holders will receive a coupon good for a FREE appetizer at Jake’s valid through the month of October. Jakes offers a wide variety of food options and is open from dinner time through your late night hours. Plus, Jake’s is the official “after party” of PorktoberQue on Saturday September 26. So, when the fun ends at the Farm Center at 7 you can head over to Jakes and use your coupon for some more fun!
You ticket is also a valuable asset in the community. Your $4 admission ticket is used to support several youth programs in the area. $1 from each ticket sold goes to the Taylor Christmas family project. Local Masons collect money each year to provide food and presents for those less fortunate in the community and working the gate and taking tickets at PorktoberQue is one of their fundraisers. Also, $1 from each ticket is designated to assist the Northview High School JR ROTC program, whose volunteers will be assisting in the parking lot parking cars. The other $2 from each ticket goes to the Houston County Farm Center (the facility we rent for PorktoberQue). The Farm Center has been an institution in the area for decades, providing facilities for equestrian, hog and cattle shows for youth and 4H programs.
Tickets for PorktoberQue will go on sale in August, and know that your ticket is good for not only fun and the festivities of PorktoberQue, but also that it helps kids in the community and you get a free appetizer in the process!
