DOTHAN, AL- The 6th annual PorktoberQue has recently been named as an elite qualifier for the biggest televised cooking competition, The World Food Championships. The World Food Championships is the largest competition in Food Sport, where grand champions of previous events convene for a chance at winning the ultimate food crown and a share of hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money. The World Food Championships is also the springboard for many up and coming culinary stars and home cooks as they seek TV fame through many well-known food shows and acting opportunities.
Now heading into its 6th season, the World Food Championships boasted the largest Food Sport tournament in history with well over 1200 contestants on 419 official teams. They came from 48 American states and 14 countries to compete, while more than 20,000 foodies watched and enjoyed the heat of the battle unfold in 10 official categories.
Since its debut in 2012, WFC has given birth to 30 TV food stars, awarded more than $1.5 million in prize money, garnered more than 5.7 billion media impressions, and connected 150+ food brands with food fans, food bloggers, and food media. In short, it has given birth to “Food Sport” by providing a level playing field, a fair judging system, a creative culinary fest, and a process that allows the culinary elite to show their chops and earn the respect they deserve.

We have received word that 2017 PorktoberQue will be a qualifier for the World Food Championships again. The categories this year are Bacon, Chicken and Sandwich. You can use the form below to register for these competitions. This year you do not have to make the entry on site- you can use your home kitchen to prepare the product and turn it in at the specified time. We have a record number of competitors at PorktoberQue this year competing in the barbecue, steak and bacon categories. Each of these three competitions is a qualifier for the World Food Championships, and the barbecue competition is also a qualifier for the American Royal, Sonny’s Smokin’ Showdown, and also a qualifying draw for the 2017 Jack Daniels Invitational.
This means that our winners from PorktoberQue can advance to much larger competitions and compete for bigger prize pools. They can advance to nationally televised competitions, and compete on a world stage with legendary cooks as part of their reward.
For example, the World Food Championships, a televised cooking competition on the Destination America station, feature over $300,000.00 in prize money. Our winners in bacon, steak and barbecue will receive a paid-for Golden Ticket because PorktoberQue is an elite qualifier. Steaks may be cooked in any fashion, and any cut of meat is allowed to be used. Steaks must be cooked on site, and contestants will be given a spot (if they do not already have a site from entering the barbecue cook off). Entry fee is $25 and the winner received a paid-for GOLDEN TICKET ($300 value) to compete in the World Food Championships, as well as a $250 hotel gift card (most likely Marriott or Hilton, TBD) so they can stay in Orange Beach to compete at the finals of the World Food Championships in November.

After a great experience partnering with the World Food Championships during our other event, Tri-State BBQ Festival, we called and asked if PorktoberQue could be a qualifier for an ancillary contest this year. We are still waiting on official confirmation as to the categories, but it looks really good that we can get in a couple of categories for the event.
