We have received word that 2017 PorktoberQue will be a qualifier for the World Food Championships again. The categories this year are Bacon, Chicken and Sandwich. You can use the form below to register for these competitions. This year you do not have to make the entry on site- you can use your home kitchen to prepare the product and turn it in at the specified time. However, if you choose to prepare it on site, we will assign you a space to do so, and even to set up your grill or other device(s) needed to compete. Please call 334-699-1475 for information.
We have a record number of competitors at PorktoberQue this year competing in the barbecue, steak and bacon categories. Each of these three competitions is a qualifier for the World Food Championships, and the barbecue competition is also a qualifier for the American Royal, Sonny’s Smokin’ Showdown, and also a qualifying draw for the 2017 Jack Daniels Invitational.
This means that our winners from PorktoberQue can advance to much larger competitions and compete for bigger prize pools. They can advance to nationally televised competitions, and compete on a world stage with legendary cooks as part of their reward.
For example, the World Food Championships, a televised cooking competition on the Destination America station, feature over $300,000.00 in prize money. Our winners in bacon, steak and barbecue will receive a paid-for Golden Ticket because PorktoberQue is an elite qualifier. The Tuffy Automotive “High Steaks” Cooking Challenge will be held Friday September 23 in conjunction with PorktoberQue. Contestants will turn in one whole steak, garnished and presented as fancy as they like, and also a minimum of 5 bite-sized portions of the steak for the judges to taste. The whole entry will be scored on appearance (1/3rd of the score) and photographed, as the event is an elite qualifier for the 2016 World Food Championships Steak competition.
Steaks may be cooked in any fashion, and any cut of meat is allowed to be used. Steaks must be cooked on site, and contestants will be given a spot (if they do not already have a site from entering the barbecue cook off). Entry fee is $25 and the winner received a paid-for GOLDEN TICKET ($300 value) to compete in the World Food Championships, as well as a $250 hotel gift card (most likely Marriott or Hilton, TBD) so they can stay in Orange Beach to compete at the finals of the World Food Championships in November.

Who doesn’t love the smoky, salty taste of bacon? Now, you can put your culinary skills to the test and enter the Five Star Credit Union Bringing Home the Bacon cooking competition. PorktoberQue is an elite qualifier for the 2016 World Food Championships. The bacon competition is for contestants who use bacon in their recipe, and that is the only stipulation is that bacon is used or featured in the recipe.
The winner will receive a paid entry into the 2016 World Food Championships and a $250 Marriott hotels gift card so they can go compete in Orange Beach this November. The World Food Championships has a $10,000.00 grand prize in the bacon category, so the steaks are high! After a great experience partnering with the World Food Championships during our other event, Tri-State BBQ Festival, we called and asked if PorktoberQue could be a qualifier for an ancillary contest this year. We are still waiting on official confirmation as to the categories, but it looks really good that we can get in a couple of categories for the event.
