M&M Cookie Bars – Packedwith colorful M&M’S and mini chocolate chips, these cookie bars are a viral hit and a reader favorite.
Classic M&M Cookie Bars
These M&M Cookie Bars are so easy to make. Golden brown and delicious, they are packed with colorful M&M’S and mini chocolate chips. I just love the crunch of the M&M’S in this recipe! Make sure to add more M&M’S and mini chocolate chips to the top of the cookie dough before baking for a pretty presentation. No scooping or chilling the dough, these bake up in a snap and are perfect for parties or a crowd. This recipe bakes a full 9×13 pan of cookie bars. I’ve listed 18 as the recipe yield, but you can cut them smaller to serve more if you prefer.
Ingredients for M&M Cookie Bars
- Butter – two sticks of unsalted butter (1/2 pound of butter total) softened but not melted.
- Sugar – granulated white sugar.
- Brown Sugar – firmly packed golden brown sugar or light brown sugar. The brown sugar should be fresh and soft and not dried out. Dark brown sugar can be used but will result in a cookie bar a bit deeper in color.
- Large Eggs – for best mixing, eggs should be at room temperature when using. I like to put them in a cup of warm water if they are still chilled.
- Vanilla Extract – use pure vanilla extract for best flavor.
- All-Purpose Flour
- Salt
- Mini Chocolate Chips – mini semi-sweet chocolate chips.
- Milk Chocolate M&M Candies
How to Make M&M Cookie Bars
- Start by mixing the cookie dough. The dough should be fairly thick, so a stand mixer is best, but you can also use a hand mixer.
- Beat together two sticks of room temperature butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar.
- Add in eggs and vanilla extract and continue mixing until well combined.
- Add flour, salt, and baking soda and mix just until cookie dough forms.
- Finally, stir in chocolate chips and M&M’S.
- Transfer cookie dough to a 9×13 pan lined with foil and sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. This makes the bars easier to lift out and cut after baking.
- Sprinkle dough with additional M&M’s and mini chocolate chips.
- Bake 30-35 minutes in a 350 degree oven until bars are golden brown.
- Let cool completely on a wire rack and cut.
Recipe Tips
- Use a light colored 9×13 baking pan for best results.
- You can line the baking pan with parchment paper if you prefer. The foil just makes it easier to lift the cookie bars out of the pan and slice them into squares.
- I prefer the cookie bars to be soft and slightly underbaked. The final texture should be soft, not hard and crispy through out. Cookie bars will continue to set as they cool.
- Cookies bars should be stored in an airtight container for up to three days.

Can you use the non-stick foil in place of spraying aluminum foil?

Made them and they were soooo gooey and seemed undercooked. I even put them back in for 10 mins more. Are they supposed to be gooey? Cookie bars I’ve made in the past have never been this gooey.
